Who we are

We focus on achieving a better understanding of inflammatory processes in acute and chronic inflammation to develop adequate diagnostic and therapeutic tools. In this context, we explore blood compatible materials, endothelial damage as well as the multiple roles of extracellular vesicles and their biological activity. In order to counteract inflammation associated with tissue damage, we aim to identify bioactive molecules secreted by mesenchymal stem cells to modulate the immune response and promote tissue regeneration. We work on improved therapies for bone and cartilage regeneration.

Why/How are we going Green

The University for Continuing Education Krems is strongly committed to sustainability, research integrity, and environmental responsibility.

In order to embed sustainability and green thinking in our laboratories, the Department for Biomedical Research and the Center for Biomedical Research have implemented sustainable practices in the areas of energy efficiency, waste reduction and recycling, resource management, and increased the awareness of eco-friendly measures.

In line with the Green Labs Austria guidelines, we established a waste recycling procedure for plastics in the laboratory and emphasize the use of reusable materials such as glassware where feasible. Moreover, we optimized the purchase of lab supplies, prioritize shared use of lab equipment, and avoid unnecessary energy consumption by switching off devices and lighting.
