Who we are

The Department of Evolutionary Biology works towards understanding the evolution of animal form, function, and diversity by combining comparative, developmental, and theoretical approaches. Specific research foci include body plan evolution, evodevo, functional morphology, ecomorphology, animal phylogeny as well as research into developmental and physiological processes and their interactions with the environment.

Why/How are we going Green

In general, we try to reduce our waste and economize the use of chemicals and plastics in our laboratory work. We use sustainable products and recyclable materials whenever and wherever possible. We separate and recycle polypropylene (PP) and polyethylene (PE) plastics in the lab and hand it over to the team at Green Labs Austria. We use resources carefully and try to save energy wherever possible, e.g. raise the temperature of our -80°C freezers to -70°C and switch off heating cabinets when they are not in use.

Being GREEN is a way of life and not only in the laboratory but also as a department we try to realize this philosophy little by little by, e.g., purchasing organic and sustainably produced coffee and milk.
