Who we are
The Rychli Group is located at the University of Veterinary Medicine, Clinical Department for Farm Animals and Food System Science, Centre for Food Science and Veterinary Public Health. Our research focuses on food microbiology mainly on biofilms and the foodborne bacterium Listeria monocytogenes. We aim to study Listeria monocytogenes in the One Health context including prevalence studies along the food production chain, genome analysis, biofilm models, phenotypical characterization and virulence assay. The Rychli Group currently consists of three PhD students, one postdoc, one master student and one technician.
Why/How are we going Green
- We have changed the temperature of all deep-freezers (n=6) at the unit from -80°C to -70°C
- We have defrosted and cleared out the -20 and -70 freezers, and started a stringent management system to reduce the time period the freezer is open and to avoid unnecessary long-time storage
- We are collecting the plastic tip boxes and started to replace the tips in plastic boxes with tips cardboard boxes
- We are currently evaluating our experimental processes to avoid waste and/or to plastic recycling
