Universities are traditionally thought to be places of innovation and change. To investigate how “Greta” universities present themselves online, we went through the websites of all of the 22 universities in Austria and defined criteria for which they could earn “green points”.
Universities could score for having and adequately showcasing green internal initiatives, having sustainability or similar phrasing included in their university’s slogan and development plan, possessing strong research focus on sustainability and for being part of alliances. Furthermore, we gave credit for green certifications or if the topic was mentioned on their main landing page.
