Who we are
Circe Biotechnologie GmbH develops and scales innovative gas fermentation processes that transform CH4 and other gaseous feedstocks into valuable products such as bioplastics (polyhydroxyalkanoates, PHA) and alternative proteins (single-cell protein, SCP). Our aim is to accelerate the transition towards a circular bioeconomy by replacing fossil-based production routes with efficient, biology-driven processes. C1 feedstocks are decoupled from primary agricultural production. We are based in Seestadt/Vienna.
Why/How are we going Green
Our gas fermentation platform can directly valorize waste biomass via gases (e.g. biogas, syngas) and contributes to greenhouse gas reduction.
We replace petrochemical production pathways with bio-based, low-carbon processes. The gas fermentation platform is highly scalable.
Our microbes can replace animal-derived materials (fish meal, meat) and fossil plastics (PHA are fully biodegradable, also in the marine environment, avoiding persistent microplastics).
We collaborate with local partners to reuse materials and lab consumables where possible (e.g. packaging, cool packs).
We prioritize green mobility: commuting by public transport, bike, and shared mobility solutions.
By integrating various side-streams into our fermentation feedstocks, we reduce waste and close carbon loops.
