Who we are
The Pathology is dedicated to understanding infectious and non-infectious diseases. The unit serves animal owners, private veterinary practices and clinics, university and other institutes as well as the pharmaceutical industry. Comprehensive methodological approaches from the macroscopic to the molecular level are leveraged for diagnostic and research purposes. The research area covers the pathomorphology of animal diseases, using the methods of histology, cytology, immunohistochemistry and electron microscopy.
The unit also focuses on analysis and research of diseases using laboratory animal models. Laboratory animals represent a significant value in modern research of human diseases, such as cancer, neurological diseases, cardiovascular disease and infectious diseases. For these reasons it is essential to investigate pathological transformations in the animal model and compare them to the respective human diseases. Our multidisciplinary approach helps us to better understand molecular genetic mechanisms of diverse diseases and to develop targeted therapies for human patients.
Why/How are we going Green
- Freezer and Waste Management: Lab temperatures were adjusted for energy efficiency, and freezer management practices were optimized. Plastic tip boxes are being reused, and experimental processes are being evaluated for waste reduction and better recycling.
- Sustainability Commitment: The lab aims to minimize its environmental footprint by reducing energy consumption, using eco-friendly materials, and promoting recycling.
- Plastic Waste Reduction and Energy Conservation: The lab focuses on reducing and recycling plastic waste through Green Labs infrastructure, choosing sustainable products, and saving energy by adjusting freezer temperatures and turning off equipment when not in use.
- Reducing Plastic and Energy Use: The lab aims to collect and recycle plastic waste efficiently, reduce disposable plastic use by replacing items with glass vials, and reduce energy consumption by turning off non-essential equipment.
